About
My name is Jennifer Cox and I am a Visiting Lecturer (Lectrice) at the Université de Lille - Pont de Bois in Lille, France. Previously, I spent four years as an Associate Instructor of French in the Department of French and Italian at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where I also taught a special topics course in Global Language Ideologies for the Collins Living-Learning Center.
I specialize primarily in French sociolinguistics and global studies. My work broadly investigates how minoritized language communities shape (and are shaped by) ideologies surrounding non-French languages in Francophone societies. My research has focused mainly on this phenomenon in minoritized languages in Europe, but I am also interested in its impact on the broader Francophonie, particularly the Maghreb. My dissertation investigates the impact of individual agency on the revitalization of the Picard language of northern France and Belgium. Please feel free to read more about my research and teaching, and contact me with any questions.
